Simultaneous Dual-Isotope SPECT Imaging for the Detection and Characterization of Parathyroid Pathology

چکیده
V a r i o u s imaging methods have been used for the preoperative localization of parathyroid tumors in patients with hyperparathyroidism. Among the noninvasive methods, several scintigraphic techniques have been employed, including variations on the dual-isotope 2°ITI/99mTC subtraction techniques (1-3). Modification of this technique, using 123I instead of [99mTC] pertechnetate, has also been proposed (4,5). In addition, SPECT 2°~T1 imaging of the neck and chest in search of parathyroid pathology has also been reported (6). This paper reports the use of a technique for use in the preoperative evaluation of patients with hyperparathyroidism using a dual-isotope SPECT technique for detection and characterization of abnormal parathyroid tissue.

Simultaneous dual-isotope SPECT imaging for the detection and characterization of parathyroid pathology.
A technique is described involving simultaneous, dual-isotope SPECT imaging. Using 123I and 201TI, a patient study is presented, demonstrating the clinical utility of this technique in the detection and characterization of parathyroid pathology. The use of this technique in other clinical situations is discussed.
متن کاملSPECT-CT fusion in the diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism
Objective(s): In this study, we aimed to analyze the relationship between the diagnostic ability of fused single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) images in localization of parathyroid lesions and the size of adenomas or hyperplastic glands. Methods: Five patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and 4 patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) we...
متن کاملCompensation of Cross-Contamination in Simultaneous 201Tl/99mTc Myocardial Perfusion SPECT Imaging
Introduction: It is a common protocol to use 201Tl for the rest and 99mTc for the stress cardiac SPECT imaging. Theoretically, both types of imaging may be performed simultaneously using different energy windows for each radionuclide. However, a potential limitation is the cross-contamination of scattered photons from 99mTc and collimator X-rays into the 201Tl energy window. We used a middle en...
متن کاملAtypical non-[99mTc]Tc-MIBI avid parathyroid adenoma with a sternal brown tumor, mimicking ectopic parathyroid adenoma in planar and SPECT images: Importance of SPECT/CT acquisition
Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is defined by the excess level of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Parathyroid adenoma is responsible for about 80% of all pHPT. Parathyroid adenoma with cystic feature and atypical pathology is recognized as a rare entity. Technetium-99m methoxy isobutyl isonitrile ([99mTc]Tc-MIBI) scintigraphy has favorable detection rate for ectopic gland as well as th...
متن کاملEvaluation of Simultaneous Dual-radioisotope SPECT Imaging Using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose and 99mTc-tetrofosmin
Objective(s): Use of a positron emission tomography (PET)/single-photonemission computed tomography (SPECT) system facilitates the simultaneousacquisition of images with fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) andtechnetium (99mTc)-tetrofosmin. However, 18F has a short half-life, and 511keV Compton-scattered photons are detected in the 99mTc energy window. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to ...
